Behind the Scenes at Wood-Tex

Welcome to Wood-Tex! My names is Katelyn and I work in Marketing. Why don't you join me for a little tour of our place?

We'll start at the office. This is where you would come to talk to one of our sales reps to find out more about our products or to purchase your structure.

Kaylie is the first person you'll meet when you walk in the door. She'll greet you with a cheerful smile and offer you one of her delicious, freshly baked cookies or cupcakes and coffee while you wait to talk to a sales person.

Yummy! They'll keep you coming back for more. You can find out what she's been baking recently by visiting her at facebook.com/kaylieskorner.

If you're looking into buying a cabin, Mahlon would be the man to talk to.

Or if you're interested in one of our other products you might talk to Chris or one of the other friendly people on our Sales Team. (You can meet everybody here.)

Busy working...and drinking coffee.

We LOVE our new sales office!

Next let's take a walk around our lot and look at the large selection of in-stock items, anything from chicken coops to cabins.

You can take a tour of our fully furnished cabins.

And then watch as they construct an on-site garage.

Next we'll go to the shops.

This is where all the sheds are built.

Everyone is hard at work.

Here are sheds in various stages of construction.

And finally it's delivery day.

This could be YOUR dream building ready for delivery!

I hope you enjoyed your visit and that you'll come back soon!
This is your tour guide, Katelyn, signing off.

Own A Garage You Can Be Proud Of!

2 Story Doublewide Garage, Wood-Tex Products

When you visit Wood-Tex Products at their home location of Himrod, NY on beautiful Seneca Lake you will see their newest model construction project underway; a  24'x36' Two StoryDoublewide Garage that will feature a completely finished apartment on the second story. Finished living space is not limited to the second story as portions of the first floor can be finished as well giving extra storage space a plethora of new possibilities. From a home office, guest house, or extra living space to a possible rental unit, summer kitchen or vacation cottage this is one way to maximize your investment in a new structure.

For each use of your finished living space there are many returns on your investment. Perhaps most easily measured is the possibility of a financial return through use as a rental property but equally as significant are the options of having private living quarters for guests or family nearby.

Garage apartments are a particularly efficient and affordable way to provide for both vehicles and living space. When asked about the benefits of the new line of garages regional sales manager Matt Lapp advised, “Finishing the upstairs of a garage is less expensive than buying two separate structures, like a cabin and garage, with the same sized footprint.” It’s a good point to consider, why not make your dollars stretch further and get everything you need and want from one structure?

Like all the structures built at Wood-Tex Products these garage apartments are highly customizable allowing for optimum flexibility and satisfaction. The floor plan, roof style, pitch, and accents can all be changed to allowing it to reflect your own personal style and tastes. Offering bothA-Frame or Gambrel roof styles with flat and A-Frame dormers the stylistic possibilities are many.

On the practical side of things the apartment is completely sealed off from the garage so smells, sounds, and even dust from the garage will not transfer up to the clean living area.

“There is much more demand for small efficient homes like this now than there’s ever been” remarked Ben Lapp, Branch Manager of the facilities in Himrod “I definitely see this as a growing market, especially in the Finger Lakes Area.” Having a cottage along one of the lakes can be a challenge because of the high price of land so the affordability of these new homes is very appealing.

The people at Wood-Tex Products focus on bringing about the realization of their customers’ dreams through experiences and structures that will last a lifetime. To them, offering these functional apartments is another way of making dreams a reality, and that is very exciting!

NEW CONCEPT FOR A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE

Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of NY as well as the Foothills region of SC Wood-Tex Products is more than a reliable provider of quality storage sheds, chicken coops, horse barns, garages, and log cabins but is also an active participant with their community. Nationwide awareness is growing of the important role that a diet of natural, organic foods plays in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Individuals and communities everywhere are looking for ways to integrate organic gardening and healthy eating into their lives. In response to this growing movement Wood-Tex Products began developing a structure that would make it easier for folks to grow organic food at home.

After many hours of investigation into types of material and refining design factors Wood-Tex has released their newest line of structures: Greenhouses!  “We talked to many greenhouse experts and benefited from some of their ideas and recommendations.  A lot of research and development has gone into making this the best portable greenhouse on the market.” remarked Matt Lapp, the Regional Sales Manager for their offices in Himrod, NY.

A unique feature of this line is the option to build them with or without a floor. So whether you are looking for a hot house for your plant and flower starters or a greenhouse where your vegetables will flourish these structures are designed to meet your needs.

The simple design of these buildings lend themselves to any setting be it a large backyard, farm, or small in-town lot. Standard features include a painted duratemp kneewall, glassboard kneewall inside, 16” shutter vent, wire mesh shelves, poly carbonate panels on sides and roof, and hanging basket rails. An especially convenient feature are the double Dutch doors which allow refreshing breezes to enter the greenhouse while keeping out pesky creatures like rabbits.  Wesley Youngman who headed up the greenhouse project noted about these many features “the greenhouse was designed after many hours of researching everything from the structural integrity to the glazing option to provide our customers with an economical, user friendly building, for the ultimate gardeners’ greenhouse.”

In order to increase the versatility of their Greenhouses and extend the growing season Wood-Tex offers several unique options. Shade cloth provides protection from the intense heat of mid-summer while an electrical package, electric heater, exhaust fan, and thermostat help regulate temperature all year round.  Set the thermostat to your preferred temperature and the exhaust fan will push out the hot air as the temperature rises or the heater will kick on as the temperature falls.

This line of Greenhouses is a great addition to the other functional and quality structures provided by Wood-Tex Products.  “Wood-Tex is committed to the continued improvement of this product line through a trial product testing period and valued feedback from customers” said Youngman. So for those dreaming of enhancing their lives through organic gardening or growing beautiful flowers this line of Greenhouses may be your solution!

Open House Memories

A couple of weeks ago on June 2nd we had our big annual Open House here at Wood-Tex Products. It was a grand event with plenty to do for everyone! Customers enjoyed browsing the large selection of in-stock structures, from gazebos to fully furnished modular log homes. Even the children had fun running in and out of sheds and playing in the miniature horsebarn.

There was a lot more happening outdoors too with barrel rides and candy drops for the kids and delicious food for everyone. Many folks enjoyed the helicopter rides too! I was pretty excited about the opportunity for a helicopter ride myself but from eight o’ clock when the doors opened until 5:30 when the last happy customer departed there was hardly a moment to look up at the hubbub outside because of all the activity indoors!

During one particularly long sale the children of the family were kept encouraged by thoughts of fun in the bouncy house when their parents where through.

There was lots of excitement in the air and all together it was a great day. The best thing though was not the activities, food, or music but the satisfaction of assisting so many people in seeing their needs met and visions realized. Whether it was reclaiming a garage by clearing out storage items, or designing a custom pool house or studio workshop people were excited to be adding order to their lives and meeting their goals. And that’s what it’s all about!

Aerial view of Wood-Tex
Designing a dream
There was barrel rides for the kids (but the adults had a lot of  fun on this too!)
100% of the proceeds from food was donated to Fair Play Boys Camp.  A total of $2,737.05 was raised!
The helicopter rides were a big hit
And the homemade ice cream was too good to let even the smallest amount go to waste =]
There was live music...
f
fresh, warm donuts that just melted in your mouth...

And chainsaw carvings (with a chance to win the finished product!)

Wood-Tex, Going Solar?

Currently the sun is shining, the air is crisp, the nail guns are humming along and the Wood-Tex delivery trucks are heading down the road, delivering happiness to more people again just before the weekend.

Sound like a great day to be building sheds? It is!

It’s also a wonderful day to be producing our own electricity! That’s right, our saws, air compressors and computers are currently extracting their much needed AC current directly from our roof! Thankfully when they mail the electric bill and it’s only a fraction of what it used to be that’s only a figure of speech, they actually still use the same size paper, it’s just the numbers are much smaller. It would be difficult to keep track of receipts if they were that little! :)

In all seriousness why would we invest in a system that catches the sun’s rays and feeds us electric?

There’s power in numbers. From what I understand each state has differing incentives to install Solar systems, New York happens to be coming out with excellent incentives and benefits for doing so now. Tax codes, grants, incentives etc are the govt’s way of making it very easy and rewarding for you to make certain investments. Solar seems to be one such example right now.

It’s all about you. During our research stage one question kept coming to the forefront: ‘How will this affect our customers now and in years to come?’ We decided it affects you greatly but only in a very positive way. Follow me here, we no longer pay much or anything for electric. For an operation like ours this can be a substantial monthly savings! When the power companies rates go up again next year guess who’s prices do not need to follow?

Walking the Talk. We’re always looking for ways to improve efficiency, productivity and quality while minimizing our waste and environmental impact. We’re proud of the fact that our Sheds, Garages, Horse Barns, Cabins and Gazebos are built here in America and we want to do everything we can to preserve this beautiful land we’re blessed to enjoy.

We’ve all been paying for it. I guess there’s been a surcharge on my electric bill for years that I’ve never noticed. Turns out it’s to fund energy savings programs such as solar.

Bottom line is this is another way we feel we can offer you more value, savings and stability.

But enough about solar, we’ve got dreams to build!

Question: What are some ideas you have about reducing energy costs and improving savings and efficiency in your home?

The Best Christmas Ever - Part Two

2012 has rolled in; a New Year is in front of each of us! Are you dreaming of goals you want to accomplish or places you want to go? On behalf of the Wood-Tex Team, we would like to say ‘Thank You’ for the privilege of partnering with you in creating the ‘Best Christmas Ever’ at Fair Play Boys Camp.

I had the honor of finishing out my two year term of working with the boys during the Christmas Season. It was all brought to a close at the formal Christmas Banquet. Being involved in a non-profit organizationlike Fair Play seems to make the dollar value increase dramatically. A simple donation, no matter the size, can make a difference in the life of a boy, who, in turn can impact others; you never know the extent of the domino effect traveling through the generations to come. It all starts with someone supporting one boy!

The Christmas Season started out at Camp by decorating our main building call the Chuck Wagon. My group made paper chains to go all across the ceiling, draping from the fans and lights. We had a lot of fun with that! When finished, over 200 feet of paper chains graced the room. There was so much energy and spirit it felt like Christmas was already here!

“Cookie Bake Day” –boy oh boy! There are enough smells, cookie shapes, and flavors to remind anyone their taste buds are still working. This event is in preparation for our Christmas Caroling in the neighborhood. One thread that we teach all year long; that we set as a goal for how we
live, is investing in the lives of those around us, blessing them however we can. We carried the same theme into “Cookie Bake”, and when the day ended and each group had their turn cutting and decorating, we had made over 1300 cookies!

A few days later we all loaded into a school bus and went to the homes of elderly in our community, hoping to lift up their spirits by singing at the top of our lungs. It is truly amazing how the boys who come to Camp for help, can “come alive” when they are giving to others! Honestly, there is no other place that I would rather be than at Camp in a moment like that.

Now for the event that has more work put into it than any other at Camp – the Banquet! The magnitude of this event was made possible through your partnership with Wood-Tex Products and the “Best Christmas Ever”!

Every boy was dressed in either a tuxedo or dress shirt and tie. We all entered the room and were seated at the elegantly decorated tables. There were decorations on the tables, with candles accenting them. Each and every plate was eye catching. The boys loved it! The meal was excellent, served by people who have generously given of their time.

This year our guest speaker, a man who was at the right hand of Paul Harvey – the well known talk show host, told the Christmas Story, a version which Paul was famous for when broadcasting. After that there was a ceremony to acknowledge the involvement I had been privileged to be a part of at Camp. All of the activities with this season were impacted through donations. Gifts for the boys, memories of the joy instead of the trauma in their lives, food for the banquet, money for projects, and the list goes on.

Once again, thank you for your part. YOU made the difference!

The Best Christmas Ever!

Order your building by Christmas and we’ll spread the Holiday Cheer together!

This Christmas Season Wood-Tex Products is partnering with Fair Play Boys Camp, a therapeutic home for troubled boys ages 8-15. Nestled among the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in South Carolina, Fair Play Boys Camp has been offering hope for a brighter tomorrow to young lives since 1980.
For every retail structure sold from now until Christmas, Wood-Tex Products will give $100 to Fair Play Boys Camp, which will go towards providing the best Holiday Season ever for the boys and camp staff! Donations and gifts are welcome, any leftover proceeds will go to support the camp’s general operating expenses!

To join Wood-Tex Products in giving these precious souls a Christmas they will never forget, contact us at:
sales@woodtex.com or call 866-966-3839 today!

But hurry! Your orders must be placed by Christmas for Wood-Tex to donate $100 to Fair Play Boys Camp from that purchase!

The following was written by Ben Lapp, formerly the Operations Supervisor at Wood-Tex Products who is now a Counselor at Fair Play Boys Camp, and will give you greater insight into the work of the camp:

“Go with me on a journey in your imagination. Let's say that you have been asked to move into this nice house your boss has bought you and told you to live out of state at a new location for the next year. Ok, fine, most of us wouldn't object. But upon your arrival you discover that the house is a brick house, still ok you might say, but the bricks have all fallen into a chaotic heap two years ago when the earthquake took place. Sound hopeless? What would happen if we would take that scenario and put it into a young boys life? Trauma seems like a pale word to describe that now doesn't it?!! This is what the work at Fair Play Camp School is all about!

Hi,I'm Ben Lapp, and I have had the tremendous privilege to be a part of the process of "rebuilding" lives of young teens for the past 22 months. The whole mission and focus is to restore these young men, who have so much potential, to the families and the futures they were created to be a part of! We live in the woods in a permanent tent type of structure and are in four
groups, with ten teen males in each group. Each of these young teens has agreed to come to receive help with living with their families and to learn how to be a part of school respecting their authority instead of degrading them. There are two "Chiefs," or counselors, in each group, and I
am one of them! Each and every part of our day hinges on two basic commitments that every single person at Camp commits to: to help ourselves, and to help others! There is so much more that can't even be put into words in writing, but just like we can't say that one certain thing other than just love changes them, so I can't describe every aspect of Camp in a way that you feel the culture of Camp. Just imagine with me again a place where there are 60-70 boys and Staff all trying to help each other work through all of our inherent problems we all face, and that is Camp!”

So join in, we can’t wait to experience the Best Christmas Ever with this deserving
organization!

Father Time

What is the most valuable commodity known to man?

In this current market environment you may hear things like, "Cash is king," and terms like "Safety in gold." An asset is something of value and in this world we all live in, nothing is more valuable and precious than TIME. When you wake up each morning you are faced with an allocation of only so much TIME in the day to accomplish what needs to be done. After that TIME is spent you will realize a loss or gain on your investment.

What, you may ask yourself, is the purpose of this illustration when it comes to Wood-Tex Products? Well, if you are in the market to shop for and make a solid value driven purchase; whether it is a small Storage Shed, Garage, Horse Barn or possibly a Cabin. You will then need to part with some of your most valuable asset, YOUR TIME and interact with one of our sales staff who can listen to your needs and help guide you in making your purchasing decision without wasting anybody’s TIME. Our team members give you lots of answers to your storage needs.

I was made aware of this process recently as my wife and I had to purchase another vehicle for my daughter to drive. When we called the sales manager at the car dealer, where we finally made the purchase, he listened to our needs and figured out what we were in the market for and then very quickly the decision was placed in our hands. At that point we were able to quickly make a well informed decision on purchasing a second car for the family to use. What we got was a great buy on a used car and not a lot of TIME wasted discussing options, or higher priced models that were not what we could afford or fit our needs.

So when making an informed decision on a small structure for your property or estate please give one of the Wood-Tex Sales Reps a call and let them HELP you SAVE some of your TIME!!! I have included here a list of things you and your family can think about before making your Wood-Tex purchase . . .

1.What are we using this building for?
General storage use such as 4-wheelers, shovels, garden tractor, gardening tools, bicycles, etc. Or maybe we need to store a large boat, jet ski or possibly a car or truck?

2.What size structure can fit into the property where we need the storage?
What Wood-Tex structure fits our property in terms of roof-line, siding colors, and roofing?

3.How about adding another door in my structure for more easy access to my favorite 4-wheeler? ;)

4.We have an idea of what we want but are not sure Wood-tex can build it?
No problem, just sketch out what you are thinking and let our design folks turn it into reality.

Now speaking of TIME it is almost getting to my very favorite TIME of day and can you guess what that is??? Yes, you got it, ”DINNER TIME”. Down south there is just nothing quite like dinner time!
So keep smiling and when you are ready to make a purchase of a shed, horsebarn or garage please use your TIME wisely and visit the friendly sales staff at Wood-Tex Products.
Now it’s TIME for dinner!!

Horses are something that I have always noticed and catch my eye. They are beautiful, strong animals that pretty much everyone seems to love and everyone wants to have one!

Growing up on a small farm we have always had horses, so I'm pretty comfortable around them. I have always liked them, but I haven't always liked riding them. I remember when I was little on Sunday afternoons my dad would tell me we were gonna go riding and all of a sudden I would get the worst stomach ache and head ache! What a coincedence :) But thankfully, I still had to go even though I was so "ill" and I would eventually be all happy and excited after my little tenth of a mile ride.

Now, (present tense) riding is very fun and exciting for me! I get to spend some good quality time especially with my dad and siblings when we ride our horses! If I would have had the choice as to whether or not to go riding when I was small, I wouldn't have had all of those great rides, memories, and would not even know how to ride today!

There's just something pretty awesome about gliding along on a big, tall horse on an old field-lane and the sun slowing setting directly behind you (can't say I have ever done exactly that but it sounded like a pretty cool "Hallmark card" moment).

Fun fact: for those of you who don't know, horses have personalities just like people do! It's pretty awesome if you think about it! We have already gone over all of our horses and matched up people to the horses and their personalities are pretty much like twins!:)

Here at Wood-Tex Products we build and sell beautiful horse barns that are also very eye catching! If you have a minute in your busy week buy a few horses, a couple saddles and other horse accessories, then head on over and check some horse barns out! We hope to see you soon!

We currently have a project we're undergoing at our manufacturing facility in Himrod, NY.

Thank goodness I have a very capable gentleman who is overseeing the proceedings. Everything seems to be flowing as well as can be expected however there are instances, rather scenarios, that give me pause and wonder; What?! Really?!

Today, I encountered such a scenario.
We have need for about $18,000 worth of concrete in 3 days from now as I write this. After price shopping about 2-3 local companies we decided who we would like to buy this concrete from. Their sales rep was nice enough to make the 25 mile trip from his office to ours to check out our project. Keep in mind we've been here at this exact same location for over 28 years and they've been up the road 25 miles for as long as I can remember as well.

Turns out their company policy requires anyone buying more than $15,000 worth of concrete from them to pay with a certified check. Keep in mind we've been buying (and paying for) train car loads and truckloads of stone from them for this same project since about the first of this year. No exceptions we're told, not even for us.

So now I have to leave my cozy office, brave the spring chill, navigate the increasingly eager traffic and smile at my wonderful bank's teller as I request a $15,000 certified check for the well-meaning concrete company. See, they're going to let me pay the remaining $3,000 with my normal business check. That was thoughtful I must admit.

Am I slightly annoyed with this necessity? You bet. Do I blame this company for sticking to their policy? Not one bit! That's right, I even respect them for holding their ground. Think with me please...every rule has a reason right? Am I correct in thinking a fairly large stone & concrete company such as this would sell to quite a number of contractors? I believe I am. Allow me to speculate and surmise that this established business has probably been ripped off and hung out to dry one too many times by some local contractor wanna-be who somehow forgets his obligation to pay his bills, a.k.a deliver on his word, after his product is delivered.
It reminded me again how absolutely essential it is to seek out those of integrity and honesty to conduct business with. To find that vendor or customer that will treat me as he would like to be treated. To treat others as I would like to be treated. Funny how it all comes back to the basics. This would be a great place to interject something about the importance of researching the company you're considering doing business with, especially if your purchase is potentially substantial, such as a Recreational Cabin, Modular Barn, Garage or Storage Shed, however I will resist the urge to do so as I believe that may sound a bit salesy and besides, I have a bank run to make.
